China builds world's largest oil rig

       Another world number one for the Chinese!

       It weighs 42,000 tons, has a deck the size of a standard football field and stands 37 stories high from the bottom of the ship to the top of the drilling rig. It cost about $700 million to build, or the price of two Airbus A380s. This is China's newly developed "Blue Whale 1", the world's largest and deepest semi-submersible offshore drilling platform, built by CIMC Raffles Offshore Engineering Company.

       Blue Whale 1 will be delivered in two weeks' time, CCTV reported on March 4.
